Project 5-2-6

Spill Blog has been silent for a while but all busy in the background.

Project 5-2-6 is reaching the final stages – which means that very soon Spill moves from F5 @ NH to F6 @ CU.  And then much stuff starts to happen.  It’s going to be exciting.

Preparing for the Poets

Apples and Snakes is England's leading organisation for performance poetry and spoken word. The organisation runs performance poetry events, educational workshops and provides top quality training and artist opportunities.

Since January of this year Apples and Snakes have been using Floor 5 @ Norham House as a space for a monthly Newcastle ‘Scratch Club’.   Throughout the afternoon poets gather to share skills and develop new techniques, and then at 7pm they strut their stuff to an invited audience and ask for some constructive feedback.

This Sunday is going to be the last Scratch Tyne hosted by F5 @ NH – when the next scratch event takes place the F5 gang will have moved to their new base at Commercial Union House.  So.  We’re going to make tomorrow both lively and lovely.

Schedule is simple;

For information about ‘the rehearsal bit’ go to FB @ https://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=128383070576432

Information about ‘the performance bit’ is as follows;
  • Guests welcome from 6.30pm
  • Performances @ 7pm
  • Shared food & creative chat @ 8pm.
(If you want to stay for food please bring a couple of gold coins to put in the pot).

And all through today we’re preparing the space, because we want to make tomorrow a bit special. We’re thinking the projection of poetry films during & after the food.

.... oh yes.  It’s going to be lovely and lively.

Scratch Tyne is private event.
Please use FB message or email to confirm attendance.

Spill on Sunday > The Essential Information

Go to previous entry (below) for Spill on Sunday evening schedule.  This post is about what ‘attendees’ need to know.

The Spill Culture Club Launch Event in the evening is the focus of activity, but we are doing a child friendly ‘open door to open floor’ afternoon between 2pm & 5pm for friends and colleagues who want to connect with the project but have other things that must be done on the evening.  Coffee & cookies & circus toys for little people to play with.

The way the evening event works is very simple.  Doors open at 7pm – and there is an opportunity for ‘early arrivers’ to become part of the art through Topsy Qur’et’s Silhouette Project.  The first performance element of the night is scheduled for 8pm.  (The magnificent Shubunkin).

We’re inviting people to bring 4 things with them;
  • A tie.  Attendees wearing ties will have access to the VIP area.
  • £5.  The Sunday event is free, but if you bring £5 that will buy you membership to the Spill Culture Club.  (More information about exactly what that means is available on Sunday).  Membership of the club is a choice on the night - come taste and decide.
  • An ‘interested and interesting person’.  The Spill Culture Club aims to set up a network of people who are interested in this ambitious idea of creating diverse city centre work in unusual places - creativity spilling from the new hive building into the public realm.
  • Something to drink. It's a 'bring a bottle' event – wine or vodka or some other favoured beverage.
I think that covers the essentials.  Looking forward to seeing you on Sunday.  If you do want to bring ‘extra people’ please FB message Fifth Floor, or send an email.

Three Days to Spill

Three days…. three days to go….

Pox have just been in the building talking about technical requirements ‘cause they’re performing at 11pm at the Spill Culture Club launch.  Difficult to explain Pox.  Does involve music and words and costumes and paint and wigs and a bit of cosmic dancing.  A meditation on reality.

…. and as the clock chimes 12 tonight the full schedule for Sunday goes up on the blog, as well as a bit of information about what guests need to bring.  Ties.  Ties are important.  Anybody wearing a tie gets access to the VIP area.

Four Days to Spill

Four days to Spill and Floor 5 is getting busy.  Striding around the space today is Stream of Consciousness, a grouping of new graduates from the University of Northumbria Performing Arts Course who’ve been working with Resident Artist Matt Cummins and are creating something unexpected for the evening event.

And throughout Norham House Topsy Qur’et’s Silhouette artwork is gradually making its presence known.  Silhouettes has been conceived as a window based project that will be seen by the general public on New Bridge Street, Pilgrim Street and Northumberland Street in the centre of Newcastle. Between 7pm & 8pm on Sunday there will be an opportunity for some people to have their shadows cut out in paper and become a silhouette that will join the others in the windows.

Images of the Silhouette development process are on Fifth Floors Flicker stream @ bit.ly/spill01

Spill Culture Club Launch > Sun June 26th.
